The Stallings Center was built in 1994 to house the RISE Program. This state-of-the-art facility is named for former UA football coach and RISE advocate Gene Stallings, whose son Johnny benefited from participation in the program. A playground at the facility is named for Johnny Stallings.

The RISE Program, which was founded in 1974, serves children ages birth to six years in the West Alabama area who have known or suspected disabilities. Children without disabilities are enrolled in the program as well.

The RISE Program offers services to families that may include physical, occupational, speech, and music therapies. In addition, the program serves as a practicum and internship site for students, and as a model for similar programs across the country.
