Shelby HallUA's new interdisciplinary transportation and science complex, Shelby Hall, was dedicated on May 14, 2004. The building is named in honor of U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby and his wife, Dr. Annette N. Shelby.

At 200,000-plus square feet, the facility is UA's largest academic building and one of the most sophisticated campus science facilities in the nation. The pentagon-shaped Shelby Hall is the new home for UA research coalitions and centers in transportation, geosciences, energy, biosciences, chemical sciences, and material sciences, and houses the Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Shelby Hall houses 70 research labs, five teaching labs, three theatre-style lecture halls, 40 offices for faculty and professional staff, and 80 offices for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

Shelby Hall is building 150 on the campus map.
