Little Hall

Little Hall

Little Hall, built in 1915 as a boy’s gymnasium, houses the dean's office, administrative offices, and faculty offices of the School of Social Work.

In 1892, transfer student William ‘Bill’ Gray Little arrived on campus to teach the students the game of football that he learned while at Phillips-Andover. Because of this, the first stand alone gymnasium was named for him. The building had rooms for boxing, wrestling, special exercises, trophies, lockers, baths, and a large main hall with galleries for spectators.

Information collected from The University of Alabama : a guide to the campus by Robert Oliver Mellown (Tuscaloosa : University of Alabama Press, c1988), and The University of Alabama, a pictorial history by Suzanne Rau Wolfe (University : University of Alabama Press, c1983).
